Wrinkle Relaxing Injections - Patient Information
What is it?
BOTOX® is a purified protein which has the effect of temporarily
weakening muscles. It has been used in medicine for over 30 years to
treat conditions such as eyelid spasm and cerebral palsy. It has been
used for the cosmetic treatment of facial lines for over 15 years. BOTOX®
is a prescription only drug and therefore has to be prescribed by a
doctor.
Where is it used?
The best cosmetic results are obtained on the upper third of the face
i.e. the frown, forehead and smile lines. These are areas where
muscular contraction causes the skin to wrinkle. BOTOX® can therefore
soften lines in these areas, prevent new lines forming and give the skin
a chance to repair itself by reducing the continual creasing. BOTOX®
can also be used to lift the eyebrows. An improvement can be gained
whilst still maintaining a natural look.
How long does it last?
It will take 2-14 days for the full effect to occur. BOTOX® most commonly
lasts 3-4 months, but may last between 2-9 months depending on the
individual. In general the longer one has been having BOTOX®, the
longer the effect lasts.
What will I look like after?
After about 30 minutes there will be little if any evidence of treatment
administration.
How many treatments will I need?
Excellent results can be obtained after a single session. When being
treated for the first time with BOTOX® you will be offered a
complimentary follow up 2-4 weeks after your treatment. This is to
ensure you have an optimal aesthetic outcome.
Please Note: a consultation is necessary to determine whether you are
suitable for this treatment.
